Potty training a stubborn puppy can sometimes seem like an impossible mission impossible at fist. After all, who would ever train a dog that didn’t want to be trained? Well, most people do not know how stubborn your pet really is, so they are not sure if it is just laziness or if it is a serious disease. However, after reading this article you will understand that potty training a stubborn puppy can indeed be challenging and the following are the most frequent issues that can arise during potty training a stubborn puppy. Hopefully, after reading this article, you will gain a better understanding of just how challenging potty training a stubborn puppy really can be.

Most puppies don’t like to have their waste products exposed to other people: So for a dog potty pad or other form of training supplies, it is important that they do not see their waste sitting in a box of urine and feces for days on end. This causes a lot of stress and discomfort for your pet and can even lead to other health problems. Some dogs refuse to sit on dog potty pads due to this reason and this can be easily resolved by simply purchasing an alternative potty training supply that can be used whenever your pooch needs to go.

Another problem that is often encountered during potty training: a stubborn puppy involves the fact that he has a lot of energy and at times he does not want to go potty outside. In order to overcome this problem, try to offer your pooch a small treat prior to allowing him to go potty outside. Once he becomes accustomed to a small treat, he will eventually learn to look for his treat whenever he goes potty outside instead of using the door or some other method. This way, you will be able to get him to begin to go outside on his own at the first thing in the morning and eventually let him off on his own after the first time he goes potty outside.

One of the biggest obstacles you may encounter: when potty training a stubborn pup is the fact that dogs really don’t want to do potty train. You may feel like you are just going to have to give in on your pet if you decide to pick a forceful approach, but you will definitely come out on top in the end if you use a calm, patient, and supportive approach. If you are not prepared for this, it may be best to start training your pups when they are still puppies. Although some pups may seem like they are the type that will take to training immediately, you may want to wait until they are at least two years old just in case they become a bit resistant to certain methods and routines.

Something else that is important to remember: when potty training a stubborn puppy at home is consistency. You should place the kennel right next to the bathroom so that your puppy will get used to going there at the same times every day. You should also keep a bottle of dog food and water next to the kennel so that your pup can go to the bathroom if he needs to.

Most puppies are easily persuaded to go potty: after eating their favorite puppy food or after playing with their favorite toy, but you may need to make an effort to persuade them on a regular basis. It doesn’t necessarily have to involve harsh scolding if you can do this. Just simply take the pup out to the designated area, wait patiently while he or she sits on the designated spot, and then give a quick reprimand and then go back to waiting.

Eventually, your pooch will begin to associate the bathroom with going there and this can greatly reduce any accidents that you may have to deal with. In the long run, having a healthy, happy puppy makes potty training much easier and more effective.
